The Shoppes @ Landerwood Grand Re-Opening

The Shoppes at Landerwood and The Offices at Landerwood in Pepper Pike celebrated their renovation and re-opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Aug. 23.

The plaza was hailed as “the downtown” of Pepper Pike by Robert I. Glimcher, president of the Glimcher Group, based in Pittsburgh, which owns The Shoppes and The Offices at Landerwood.

“One of the reasons we looked to acquire, at the time, it was known as Landerwood Plaza – was we thought Pepper Pike is one of the greatest communities in Ohio,” Glimcher said. “What we saw was a diamond in the rough. We saw this shopping center had great tenants, great bones, but needed a little freshening up. It was like, 50 or 60 years behind the times. Our original thoughts was the city does not have a real downtown and we wanted to transform the center to look more like a downtown.”

To achieve that goal, Glimcher Group turned one building into six buildings in The Shoppes at Landerwood and turned The Offices at Landerwood into three buildings from its original two buildings “to give more of a town feel.”

Glimcher also praised the employees of Pepper Pike, and said the city was a great partner, and personally thanked Pepper Pike Mayor Richard Bain, who attended the ceremony, for his assistance in getting the renovations completed.  “Mayor Bain was unbelievable to work with,” Glimcher said. “He understood our vision and loved what we were doing and wanted everything right for the city.”

The plaza was built in 1960 by Art Treuhaft, president of Keyes-Treuhaft Co., and a sister company of Keyes-Treuhaft Co. owned the property until 2016, when it was purchased by the Glimcher Group.  The renovations were announced in August 2017 and expected to be completed by November 2017. A new sign for the plaza and offices will be installed in the next three to four weeks, Glimcher said.

“There were some weather issues and when you start working on a remodel you do tend to find some other items that take place,” said Michelle Feher, property manager for The Glimcher Group. “There were also contractor and supply delays.”
